Specified Skilled Worker procedures require two separate lines of work: immigration filing and the legally required support for SSW (i) workers. They should be designed together, but their functions are different.
Application and support are different functions
The residence-status application focuses on whether the employer, worker, job, remuneration and sector requirements are met. Support focuses on the worker’s life and employment after acceptance, including orientations, housing-related assistance and consultations required by the system.
Check the receiving company first
Before recruiting, confirm that the company and actual job fall within the relevant SSW sector, that sector-specific requirements can be met, and that an appropriate support structure can be established.
Registered support organization
A receiving organization may perform support itself if it satisfies the legal requirements, or outsource all or part of the support to a registered support organization. The practical design should be decided before employment starts.
